Alton Ellis Flippo, age 81, of Florence, died on Thursday February 18, 2010 at ECM Hospital.
Funeral services will be Saturday February 20, 2010 at 3:30 pm at Killen Church of Christ with Bro. Stan Dean, Bro. Tim Grigsby, and Bro. Charles Kretzer officiating. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm until 3:30 pm.
Mr. Flippo was a member of Killen Church of Christ. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific. Mr. Flippo is preceded in death by his parents, Lindell and Ola Huskey Flippo; his son, Ronald Flippo; his sister, Martha McRight; and his grandsons, Jeremy and Justin Butler.
Mr. Flippo is survived by his wife, Bennie Ruth "Monk" Flippo; his daughters, Sheila Butler and husband Dennis, and Cathy Brewer and husband Alan; his daughter in law, Tammy Flippo; his sisters, Mazie Keeton, Marion Ayres, Hazel Mays (Wayne), and Jenny Killen (Selton); his brothers, C. L. (Sylvia), Lonnie (Ann), and David (Bonnie); his grandchildren, Cassie Chamblin (Tony), Chad Butler (Rachael), Blake and Reece Flippo, and Anna Brewer; his great grandchildren, Emma and Caroline Butler, and Colin, Colton, and Anna Claire Chamblin.
Pallbearers will be Travis Rushing, Bobby Haynes, Bobby Beddingfield, Doyce Kretzer, Paul Abernathy, and Michael LeMay. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class, his Wednesday night Men''s Class, and the Elders and Deacons of the Killen Church of Christ.
The family would like to give a special thanks to everyone who took care of Mr. Flippo during the time of his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Mr. Flippo to the Pacific Island Mission Work in c/o Killen Church of Christ.
