Ann Melof Adkison
After 76 years of a remarkable and full life on earth, Ann Melof Adkison of Decatur, Alabama passed from this life to the next on Sunday evening, March 9, 2014. All who knew and loved her will cherish the memories of her passion for her friends, for serving people across the community, and for her deep love for God and her family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., with Mass following, at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church on Spring Avenue. Following Mass, her burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur.
Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home assisted the Family.
Ann Adkison was a passionate and committed citizen, active in the Annunciation of the Lord Catholic community, as well as with Meals-On-Wheels and the Committee On Church Cooperation in Decatur. She loved to play bridge and was involved with several bridge clubs following her retirement from the American Red Cross, in Decatur.
Ann was born Annie Saleme Melof in Birmingham, Alabama on July 18, 1937 to Sadie and Brode Melof. She married Ray Adkison on May 27, 1960, and they celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary prior to Ray''s passing on December 17, 2011.
Ann is survived by her son Steve Adkison and his spouse Jennifer Dawes Adkison of La Grande, Oregon; her son Gregory Adkison and his spouse Joanne Adkison of St. Augustine, Florida; her daughter Becky Standridge and her spouse Billy Standridge of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; and seven grandchildren: Bridger, Allison, and Jacob of La Grande, Oregon; Maxwell of St. Augustine, Florida; and Ethan, Matthew, and Alex of Lake Wylie, South Carolina. In addition, Ann is survived by her sister-in-law Claudia Adkison and her spouse John Shullo, of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister-in-law Shirley Adair and her spouse Nick Adair, of Dothan, Alabama; and her cousins Michael Dicie, of Leiper''s Fork, Tennessee; Jackie Dicie, of Birmingham, Alabama; Don Melof, of Birmingham; John Melof, of Birmingham; Sandy Melof, of Birmingham; and Sherrie Dyer, of Baltimore, Maryland. Ann also leaves behind numerous dear friends and extended family across the greater southeast region and beyond.
