Anne Duncan Howard, age 81, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2009 at El Reposo Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday January 16, 2009 at 1 pm in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Florence City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on that day from 11 am until 1 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her husband, John Howard; her daughter, Karen Wills Dowdy; her parents, Whitten and Nettie Mae Duncan; her brothers, Collier and Asa Duncan; and her sister, Mary Kenneth Long. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence where she attended the Leo Creel Sunday School Class. Mrs. Howard loved to sing and was an accomplished opera singer in her young adult years. She loved fishing, woodworking with her husband, cooking, and needlework.
Mrs. Howard is survived by her daughters, Dona Wills White and husband Clay, and Pamela Wills Sexton and husband Randy of Millbrook, AL; her brother, Eugene Duncan and wife Jane of Moorehead, KY; her grandchildren, Paul E. Wright and wife Maria, Jennifer Napier and husband Matthew, Karen Hutchinson and husband Lee, and Sarah Malik; her great grandchildren, Josh Napier, Ashley Napier, Elaina Wright, Alex Wright, and Cassiana Wright; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Randy Sexton, Matthew Napier, Paul Wright, Clay White, Joshua Napier, and Chris White. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Johnson.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Howard''s name to the continuing research on Alzheimer''s disease.
