Barbara Maner Jones, 74, passed away at her home Monday, November 17, 2014. Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Beltline Church of Christ, with memorial service to follow at 3 p.m., with Charles Baggett officiating. Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home assisted the family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Glenn Maner and Vera Cagle Maner. She is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Simmons Haugen of Decatur; two brothers, Robert O. 'Butch' Maner (Judy) of Morganton, GA and Richard Gary Maner (Nancy) of Santa Fe, NM; two sisters, Marjorie Maner Smith and Melanie Maner Simpson (Don) of Decatur.
Barbara retired as budget analyst after 33 years at Red Stone Arsenal. Most retired people don't consider themselves unemployed but Barbara did. She soon went to work at Junior Achievement and stayed there for 10 years. When her sister bought a restaurant, Barbara pitched in as bookkeeper, waitress and all around flirt. Her sense of humor, wit and fun were contagious and she made friends everywhere she went. Barbara loved God, her family, her church, friends, china painting, country music and Auburn football. Barbara was renowned as an excellent cook. She took great joy in feeding people. A car never left that Barbara didn't want to be in it. She loved to go. Her vibrant spirit will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
