Bette Ruth Davis McCullough, 79, of Florence passed away on February 26, 2012. She was born June 7, 1932 at home in Campbell County, Tennessee to Eva Pickle Davis and Mose Gorman Davis.
Bette attended Draughn''s Business College in Knoxville, Tennessee before moving to Dayton, Ohio to work for Apex Machine and Tool as an Administrative Assistant. While in Dayton, Bette met and married John McCullough of Cherokee County, Alabama. Together, they raised their family in Florence, Alabama while John worked as a Chemist in Research and Development at TVA and Bette was a homemaker.
Bette maintained a lifelong interest in the Stock Market and was a great source of information to her family and friends in financial and political news. Bette enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren. The long time neighbors of Bette and John on Alexander St. will fondly remember their generosity in sharing vegetables every summer for over forty years from their back-yard garden.
Bette is preceded in death by her husband John Franklin McCullough. Survivors include son Mark Davis McCullough, daughter Beth McCullough Brewer and husband David, and daughter Alice McCullough and husband Joseph McCann. Grandchildren include Hailey Brewer Williams, James Donald Davis and wife Wendy, John Bryant Davis, Bonnie Brewer Little and husband Joshua and Davis Franklin Brewer. Great-grandchildren include Susan Elizabeth Williams, Jackson Donald Davis and Virginia Alice Little.
The McCullough family wishes to thank Dr. Felix Morris and staff for the many years of thoughtful care and comfort given to Bette and John. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made in honor of Bette to St Jude''s Children''s Hospital. A celebration of life will be announced to family and friends at a later date.
