Betty (Agee) Cromeans
Decatur Betty (Agee) Cromeans passed from this life on Jan. 16, 2018. She was born March 23, 1919 in Glenwood, Maryland to Dr. William Paige and Alice McIntosh. She grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, attended St. Margaret''s School in Tappanhannock, Virginia and West Virginia University. In 1940 she married Robert Davis Agee with whom she had three children, Robert Davis Agee Jr., now of Greenwood, South Carolina, Barbara McIntosh (Edmonds), now of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Beth Ann (Towers), now of Decatur, Georgia. She also leaves nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
During World War II Betty worked as an inspector in an aircraft manufacturing facility in Akron, Ohio and then joined her husband, Robert, in El Centro, California for the duration of the war effort. After the war they moved back to Akron and then to Decatur, Alabama where she raised her family. Additionally, she was secretary at St. John''s Episcopal Church and civically active as a leader with the Girl Scouts, was a recognized and respected judge of numerous flower shows, and volunteered her time at North Alabama Regional Hospital and in Hospice care service. Betty was the first woman to serve on the vestry at St. John''s. She was also an avid competitive golfer. After over 50 years of marriage to Robert "Bob", he passed away.
In January of 1999 Betty married John Cromeans of Decatur, Alabama. They enjoyed a wonderful life together traveling, studying through Elderhostel, spending time with their families, and sharing loving companionship throughout the rest of their lives.
A funeral will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John''s Episcopal Church in Decatur. The family will receive visitors starting at 2 p.m. in the parish hall.
