Obituary

Mrs. Betty Jean Hudson Snoddy, age 81, of Rogersville, passed away Saturday at her home with her loving family by her side. The visitation will be Tuesday evening 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Rogersville United Methodist Church with Bro. Bill Smith, Bro. J.W. "Vic" Vickers and Bro. Rod Morgan officiating. The casket will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Oliver-Bedingfield Cemetery. Betty was born in Rogersville and graduated from Lauderdale County High School where she was a cheerleader. Her 47 year career in banking began at the East Lauderdale Banking Company, later known as First Alabama Bank, then Regions Bank when she retired. She was a well-known and active member of her community. She had been a member of the Rogersville Civinettes and enjoyed membership in the Circle 8 Square Dance Group of Rogersville with her husband Clyde and many of their friends. She served on the Rogersville Zoning Board and the Board of Directors at Riverbend Mental Health Center. Betty was a life-long member of the Rogersville United Methodist Church. She served on numerous positions on the Administrative Board, was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and was an active member of the Margaret Vickers Sunday school class. She had a servant''s heart, helping others in many ways. She blessed many with her gifts of food and generosity. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed decoratively painting the wooden craft pieces that her husband Clyde made and spending time with her friends and family. She was a friend to all with a warm smile and infectious laugh. Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 61 ½ years William Clyde Snoddy; a daughter Denise Snoddy Ells of Rogersville; grandson Blake Ells of Birmingham; brother John Cecil Hudson and wife Lily of Rogersville; sister-in-law Doris Rose Hudson ofAtlanta, Georgia; a niece and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John Henry and Susie Catherine Hurn Hudson, and a brother James Hurn Hudson.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hudson, Jimmy Hudson, John Belue, John Glasscock, Gary Hudson and Rusty Hudson. Honorary bearers will be Julian Bass, Nathan "Shorty" Bates, Sam Glasscock, G.D. Ingrum, J.C. Scott, Aralee Snoddy, David Snoddy and Bobby Smith. The family would like to thank Dr. Ricky Irons, Dr. Charles Gaputis, Hospice of North Alabama, and devoted caregivers Cheryl Thompson, Marie Griffin, Virginia McCollum, Fieriea Mobley, Kathy Spall and Shelia Williams.
