Mrs. Betty Lou Wright, 91, of Florence passed away Sunday, October 14. 2018 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Saturday, October 20 beginning with a visitation at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Florian. A rosary will be said beginning at 10:30am with the Funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. Fr. John O'Donnell, O.S.B. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery.
Mrs. Wright was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, the daughter of Antoine and Louise Guchereau. She graduated from the Southwestern University. Trained as a classical pianist, she had a lifelong love of music and the arts, always eager to learn and share new things. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose faith in God was a central part of her daily life. Betty was an active member and volunteer at both St. Joseph's and St. Michael's Catholic churches. She was always willing to lend a hand and ear to both friends and strangers in need.
She was married to Robert A. Wright at St. John's Cathedral in Lafayette in 1948. After more than 50 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2003. Mrs. Wright is survived by two daughters, Michele Farris (Wade) of Huntsville, Alabama; Elizabeth Friend (Duncan) of Topeka, Kansas, and one son, Robert Wright (Shannon), Punta Gorda, Florida; Grandchildren Meagan West (Farris) and husband Kris and their son Lawson; Kyle Farris, all of Huntsville, Alabama; and step-grandchildren Amanda McCorkle and son Rylan and Ashley and Marc Ispass, all of Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Hospice of the Shoals, St. Joseph Regional Catholic School, or St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop.
