OBITUARY
BETTYE ORR
Mrs. Bettye Brittain Orr, of Florence, died Sunday, October 31, 2010.
The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the atrium of the First United Methodist Church, Florence. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Mike Pope will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mrs. Orr attended elementary and high school in Oneonta, Alabama. She attended Judson College and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University).
In the summer of 1946 she met Clyde Vincent Orr, Jr. and they married on June 24, 1947 at Lester Memorial Methodist Church, Oneonta. They lived in Birmingham from 1949 until 1962 and were members of East Lake Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class as well as the choir. They enjoyed their many close friends and neighbors while living in Birmingham.
Mr. and Mrs. Orr moved to Florence in 1962. She enjoyed her wonderful neighbors in Forest Hills, the First United Methodist Church, Florence, the William A. Graham Sunday School Class, singing in the Sanctuary Choir for 47 years, participating in Alan Flowers'' musical productions, her P.E.O. group, Mother Singers, two sewing club groups and her domino friends. Mrs. Orr loved her friends dearly and tried to keep in contact with all, including Barbara Brassell, a close childhood friend.
Mrs. Orr is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clyde V. Orr, Jr.; four wonderful children, Bettye Ann Anglin and husband Forrest of Birmingham, and Cynthia Sue Davis and husband Allan of Florence, Clyde Vincent Orr, III and wife Melanie of Montreal, Canada, and Steven Brittain Orr and wife Linda of Florence; seven wonderful grandchildren, Forrest Lehjeune Anglin, Jr., Frederick Lawrence Pelle III, Benjamin Orr Pelle, Brittain Elizabeth Orr Simmons and husband Jamey, Caroline Elaine Orr, Steven Brittain Orr II, and Taylor Anne Orr. Bettye loved each and all of her children and grandchildren dearly.
Other close living relatives are nieces Becky, Beverly, Barrie and Bitsy, daughters of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Brittain, and a nephew, Jimmy Brittain, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Brittain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. James Talmadge Brittain (Neva Ann Mellon), two brothers, James Brittain and Dr. Robert Brittain, and her granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth Anglin.
