OBITUARY
BILLY ALEXANDER
Billy Collins Alexander, age 80, of Killen, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at his home with his family by his side.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Killen Church of Christ with Stan Dean and Charles Kretzer officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the church Monday night and will again from 1:00-2:00 at the church.
Billy was a 1948 graduate of Lauderdale County High School and was associated with the Alabama Oil Company for 52 years. He was a co-owner, involved in sales and delivery. He served in the U.S. Army, 104th AAA battalion, 31st Infantry Dixie Division during the Korean War. He was active in the Killen Church of Christ as an Elder, Church Treasurer, long-time Sunday school teacher, and a co-leader of the 39''ers group.
He served his community as well, as a member of the Killen Lions Club, as a former Trustee of Brooks High School, and as Treasurer of the Killen-Center Star Rescue Squad. He also had served as Chief of the Killen Volunteer Fire Department.
Billy enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved being outside, gardening and doing yard work and enjoyed jogging at Killen Park and running 5K and 10K Runs, especially Azalea Trail in Mobile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Myrtle Alexander, a daughter, Pamela Kaye Alexander, brother, Paul Dennis Alexander, and a sister, Janice Rose Alexander.
Billy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Willie Bernice Goode Alexander; children, Greg (Theresa) Alexander, Mike (Donna) Alexander, and Tony (Cindy)Alexander; grandchildren, Amanda (Bill) White, Julie (Derek) Chris, Matt (Jennifer) Alexander, Adam Alexander, Heather (Robby) Young, Laura (David) Miles, Lindsay (Andy) White, Lacy (Casey) Walker, and J.J. Alexander: eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Leon (Ruth) Alexander: aunt, Laverne Tate, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Matt Alexander, Adam Alexander, J.J. Alexander, Austin Harrison, Robby Young, Andy White, and Bill White. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of the Killen Church of Christ, members of the Killen-Center Star Rescue Unit, and Derek Chris.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tim Ashley and Pam, the staff, nurses and doctors of 6th floor West, ECM Hospital, and Hospice of the Shoals.
