Billy Joe Bottoms, 75, of Rogersville died Wednesday, May 04, 2011, at Helen Keller Hospital. Family will receive friends Thursday, May 5, 2011, from 6-9PM at Elkins East Chapel. Funeral service will be Friday, May 6, 2011, 11AM at Elkins East Chapel with Bro. Keith Barnett officiating. Burial will be at Halltown Cemetery in Red Bay, Alabama. Mr. Bottoms was retired from the US Army. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and later became an advisor in Iran. He received many honors during his service to our country-Bronze Star, MUC, VCM, CIB, ARCOM, VSM, UNSM, KSM, GCMDL (4th Awd), NDSM (1st OLC) CAM 1st Class, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carnie and Ethel Morrow Bottoms; brother, Paul Bottoms. Mr. Bottoms is survived by his loving wife, Pat Bottoms; two daughters, Jo Poole (Gary) and Paula Pounders (Jeff); son, Mark Bottoms (Lori); five grandchildren, Hannah Poole, Alex Poole, Gracie Pounders, Lily Pounders, and Ben Pounders; four sisters, Lera Knight, Jean Hastings, Shirley Prestage, and Judy Bullen; brother, Andy Bottoms. Pallbearers will be James Hill, Andrew Bottoms, Teddy Joe Britton, Dale Cooper, Mike Burgess, and Clay Hernandaz. Honorary pallbearers will be Hoyt Wayne French and Frances "Buddy" Nelson.
