Billy Alva Carter, 86 from Decatur will have a visitation from 9:30 until 11:00 on Saturday September 1, 2018 at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel and a funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Randy Berry and Dr. Harold Fanning officiating. The burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born on May 28, 1932 to Alva Carter and Evelyn Cole Carter in Franklin Co. Alabama. He passed away August 29, 2018 at his residence. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Austinville. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army where he received a Bronze Star.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jeannine Roper.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 66 years Margie Jackson Carter; daughter Vickie Louise Carter Jackson and her husband Alvin; son Phillip Billy Carter and his wife Marcia; grandchildren Jacqui Carter Slusher and her husband Will, Jessica Carter, Susan Ruggiano and her husband Joel, Caleb Book, Jacob Book and his wife Savannah; great grandchildren Abigail Ruggiano, Benjamin Ruggiano, Lincoln Slusher; and sisters Betty Seal, Mary Jane Carter, and Martha Evelyn Sorrels.
"He was a loving husband and father, Grandfather and will be greatly missed". The family would like to thank Alacare Hospice for their services.
