Billy Watterson Decatur
Funeral for Billy Watterson, 84, of Decatur will be Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Grant Street Church of Christ with Don Osborne officiating and Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Jere Spurlin will lead congregational singing. Visitation will be at the church building on Friday evening, February 26, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mr. Watterson was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Judy Griffin Watterson; his parents, Charles Floyd and Mae Sue Hodges Watterson; and two brothers, Charles Floyd Watterson Jr. and Donald Hodges Watterson. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Eden and husband, Bill, of Athens, and a son, Butch Watterson and wife, Melanie, of Sugar Land, Texas. Three grandchildren, Preston Watterson and wife, Sara, of Edmond, Okla., Carly Lee and husband, Adam, of Athens and Wendi Holmes and husband, Wade, of Arlington, Texas. Two great-grandchildren, Chase Michael Watterson and Ava Nicole Watterson of Edmond, Okla. Two sisters-in-law, Millie Hanks of Decatur and Joan Watterson of The Villages, Fla. Cousins, nieces, nephews, and his very special friend, neighbor, and caregiver, Anne Shaffer. Pallbearers will be Jim "Spike" Aldridge, Quenton Brown, Chester Chenault, Jim Halbrooks, Duel Hammonds, Bobby Johnson, Enoch Morris and Ralph Stout. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Jones, Ed Mathis, Gary Powell, Charles Riley, Jerry Robison, Bill Simpson, Doug Weatherspoon and Gene Zahnd. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grant Street Church of Christ or Hospice of the Valley.
