Mr. Bobby D Berry of Decatur, AL passed away at his residence on March 15, 2023. He was born in Haleyville, AL on September 1, 1938, to Cleborn and Edith Berry. After graduating from Phil Campbell High School, he attended Florence State and received a degree in Business Administration. He worked for St. Paul Insurance Company for 25 years and then began a 2 nd career at Huntsville Hospital as Director of Risk Management and retired at the age of 78.
He was married to Betty Voncille Spraggins Berry for 66 years. He sang and played the piano in several gospel quartets over the years. He loved being on his family farm and deer hunting with his sons-in-law and grandsons. He was a member of Flint Baptist Church and loved his Sunday School class.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ronald and Billy, and his sister Treva Sue. He is survived by his wife, Voncille Berry, his brothers Doyce and Terry, daughters Kathy Shell (Arnold), Karen Renfroe (Rodney), and Kristi Boggess (Roger). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 grand dogs.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 21, at 2:00 pm at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Burningtree Memorial Garden. Bro. Wendell Bennett will be officiating, and Ridout's Brown-Service is handling the arrangements.
The family of Mr. Berry wishes to give special thanks to Tonya Duke and Joy Williams for their loving care of not only Mr. Berry, but the entire family. We would also like to thank Jenn, Tonya, Ally, and Marilynn of Enhabit Hospice who provided compassionate, loving care to Dad above what we ever expected. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Enhabit Hospice, ( Donations to Honor, Celebrate and Remember – Enhabit Cares ).
