A joint memorial service for Mr. Bobby Harp, 86, and Mrs. Jean Harp, 78 of Danville will be on Sunday December 1st at 3:00 PM in the chapel at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home in Decatur. There will be a visitation from 2 until 3 at the funeral home. Bro. Mike Vest and Bro. Jason McAbee will be officiating.
Bobby Gene Harp was born on November 3, 1938, in Danville Alabama to Earl Harp and Lelma Roberts Harp. He remained a Danville resident until his death at home on Friday, November 22, 2024. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, serving as Sunday school teacher and song leader for many years at Upton's Chapel United Methodist Church and finally at Danville United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army in the early 1960's, stations in both Virginia and Georgia. He retired in 1999 after over 35 years from Wolverine Tube in Decatur. Much of his time there was spent on 3rd shift manufacturing. Mr. Harp was an expert handyman who loved talking about his favorite things; his pets, cars or sports, especially Alabama Football.
He was preceded in death by only 2 days by his loving wife of 52 years, Jean Harp, his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine Harp Morgan and John L. Morgan and his infant twin sister Betty Jane Harp.
Jean Harp was born on October 9th, 1946, in Decatur, Alabama. She passed away at home in Danville on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. She grew up in Austinville, attending Austinville Elementary and Middle School before graduating from Decatur High School in 1965. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She was a floral designer for over 35 years first at City Park Florist and finally at Mary Burke Florist both in Decatur. Mrs. Harp was an exceptionally creative woman. There was nothing she could not sew, paint, or create.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rose Lee Webb Hamilton.
Mr. and Mrs. Harp are survived by their beloved daughter, Christy Harp of Danville.
One nephew: Tim Morgan (Kim) of Sheffield, AL
One niece: Patty Morgan Morrison (Garey) of Trussville, AL
Their constant companions, their two "grand cats" Penny and Lucy.
And a whole group of family and friends that they loved very much.
Their daughter would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Decatur Morgan Hospital as well as the staff and nurses of Hospice of the Valley for all their care, support, and prayers over the last month.
Memorials to the Harps may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Decatur Animal Shelter.
