A celebration of life for Boyd Douglas Drake will be held today, February 16, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Chandler and Bro. Mike Nix officiating and burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Drake passed from this life on Sunday, February 14, 2010, at River City Care and Rehabilitation Facility in Decatur at the age of 99. He was born October 18, 1910, in Falkville to Bert and Delphia Drake. He retired from Wolverine Tube in April of 1974 after 26 years of service as a maintenance carpenter. After his retirement, he enjoyed wood-working and made several grandfather clocks and pieces of furniture for members of his family. He was married to Alice Lorene Hart on March 23, 1930, and was a devoted husband for 66 years until her death in 1996. He was a member of Grant Street Church of Christ for many years and most recently, Point Mallard Church of Christ. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lorene Drake; one grandson, Michael Scott Drake; one granddaughter, Julie Drake Cooper; and three brothers, Olen Drake, Bill Drake and Woodrow Drake. He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Drake Cordar and husband, Lee; one son, Billy Joe Drake and wife, Mary Ann; granddaughters, Cindy McCurry and husband, Walt, all of Decatur; Bonnie Caddell and husband, Steve, of Hawaii; and two grandsons, Tim Baker and wife, Tammy, and David Randall Drake, also of Decatur; and several great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tim Baker, Walt McCurry, Jason Jenkins, Leon Philpot, Joey Gray, Max Kelley, David Hall and Bryan Drake. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Haitian Relief Fund at Beltline Church of Christ, 2159 Beltline Road SW, Decatur, AL 35601.
