Bryan William Libell, born July 4, 1953, in Erie, PA, passed away peacefully at his home in Florence, AL, on September 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynn Mills Libell; his son, Mark Libell and wife Carrie of Alexandria, VA; his son, Adam Libell of Florence, AL; his sister, Darlene Ericson; sisters-in-law Bonnie Libell and Debbie Libell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind close in-laws: Bob and Michelle Mills of Madison, MS; Carol Mills Shrader of Virginia Beach, VA; and Bonnie and Bruce Rafer of La Plata, MD.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanore; father, Harold; and brothers, Charles and Gary Libell.
Bryan graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School in Waterford, Pennsylvania (1971), earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Slippery Rock State University (1975), and a Master's degree in Community Counseling from Mississippi State University (1979). He was a Licensed Professional Counselor, Counseling Supervisor, and a National Certified Counselor. Bryan spent over 50 years in the mental health field, beginning as a VISTA volunteer and culminating with 20 years as Chief Executive Officer of Riverbend Community Mental Health Center in Florence, AL. He served as President of the Alabama Community Mental Health Boards and was active on numerous committees with the Alabama Department of Mental Health. He also served on various local boards, including the advisory committees for
the University of North Alabama's Social Work and Counseling programs. Upon his retirement in 2020, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of the Shoals named him Man of the Year, and the City of Florence honored him with the Key to the City.
Bryan enjoyed yard work, home improvement projects, and watching football. Above all, the most important part of his life was the love, pride, and
respect he had for his family.
