Burton Eugene Marsh, Madison, AL, aged 98, peacefully passed away on July 4, 2023 at his residence. He was born on December 30, 1924 to the late Joseph Sherman Marsh and Connie Jolly Marsh in Mooresville, AL. He graduated as class Valedictorian from Tanner High School in 1942 and was inducted into the Navy in 1945. He served in World War II on the USS Starlight in the Pacific theatre. He was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Brooksville, AL.
He married Dorothy Higgins in 1947 and they had two sons, J. David and Burton E., Jr (" Gene"). Dorothy ("Dot") preceded him in death in August 1987.
He was an avid collector of antique tractors and engines, primarily steam engines. He was a longtime member of Southeastern Flywheelers and could be frequently found at engine shows and civic events demonstrating operating steam engines.
Mr. Marsh was also preceAded in death by his grandson, Stephen Marsh. He is survived by his sons, David Marsh (Barbara) of Somerville, AL; Gene Marsh (Linda) of Madison, AL; three grandsons, Mitchell Marsh, Justin Mitchell (Shelly) and Daniel Marsh (Abbie); six great grand children; Landon, Cole, and Lila Mitchell; Violet, Ember, and Amaya Marsh.
Mr. Marsh is also survived by his beloved and devoted friend and companion, Willeen Hutchens. She was, and is, a beautiful blessing to him and his family.
Pall bearers are grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary pall bearers are Burton's dear friends, Bill Friday, Steve Allison and Don Oden.
Mr. Marsh will have a visitation on Saturday July 8, 2023 at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel from 12:30 until 2:00 PM with a service to follow at 2:00 PM and Burial at Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Samaritans Purse or Hospice of Limestone County.
