Funeral for Carol Weatherspoon, 63, of Decatur will be Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Alan Watkins officiating. Burial will be in Burningtree Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mrs. Weatherspoon, who died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, was born May 13, 1944, in Columbia, Tenn., to Robert Hogwood and Ruth Miller Hogwood. She was involved with school and church activities, The Girl Scouts and the high school band. Carol became a Christian at the age of 12. Following graduation, Carol went to the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville. She earned a B.A degree from Mobile University. Her interests were reading, gardening and travel. In 1968, Doug and Carol moved to Decatur. He worked at 3M and Carol worked at the Decatur Public Library. It was that year they became members of the Grant Street Church of Christ. Carol''s favorite area of service was teaching pre-school children in Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Doug Weatherspoon; two children, Todd D. Weatherspoon, and Laura Leigh Pannell and husband, Daniel, both of Decatur; sister, Emily Jackson of Sparta, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Wesley Pannell and Jackson Pannell. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Grant Street Church of Christ, and grandsons, Wesley and Jackson Pannell.
