Charity McBrayer, age 99, of Florence passed away on August 21, 2008.
The family will receive friends at Elkins Funeral Home on Saturday August 23, 2008 from 12 pm until 1:45 pm with a graveside service to follow at 2 pm at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Rev. John "Bud" Mayfield, former Pastoral Administrator of Highland Baptist Church will officiate.
Mrs. McBrayer is preceded in death by her husband Vernon D. McBrayer. She was born in Haleyville, Alabama on January 25, 1909.
The family would like to give special thanks to her niece, Gail Freeman, and her nephew, Jimmy DeFoor for their loving devotion. As an alumni of UNA and George Peabody College, she was active in education for thirty five years. Mrs. McBrayer worked as a classroom teacher in Lauderdale County and Muscle Shoals City Schools. She was responsible for starting the Head Start Program in the Muscle Shoals City School System and served as administrator until she retired.
Mrs. McBrayer is survived by her son, Keith W. McBrayer, Sr. and wife Jo of Florence; her daughter, Martha McCrory and husband Norman of Gallatin, TN; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Keith McBrayer, Jr., Russell McCrory, Andrew Lambert, Matthew Lambert, Jimmy DeFoor, and Norman McCrory.
