Charles L. "Charlie" Hester, age 90, a native of Itawamba County, Mississippi, who has lived in the Shoals area since 1941, died on Saturday January 23, 2010. He was retired from Reynolds Metals after 41 years. Mr. Hester was a member of Killen Church of Christ. He served on the Navy Destroyer U. S. S. H. L. Edwards in the Pacific during WWII. A graveside service will be held on Monday January 25, 2010 at 1:30 pm at Greenview Memorial Park with Bro. Ellis Coats and Bro Stan Dean officiating. The family will receive friends at Elkins East Chapel on that day from 11 am until 1 pm.
Mr. Hester is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Buena L. Hester, and his parents, Claude and Jessica Wright Hester.
Mr. Hester is survived by his sister, Jeanette Whitehead and husband Rayford; his sister in law, Nancy English and husband Ed; his brother in law, Bud Applegarth and wife Sue; his nieces and nephews, Sandy Brock, Paul Whitehead, Greg Whitehead, Wayne Whitehead, Paige Stephenson, Craig Applegarth, and John English; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John English, Craig Applegarth, Heath Hale, Randy Stephenson, Paul Whitehead, Doyce Kretzer, B. W. Givens, and Pud Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Ezell, Almon Truitt, Lewis Mason, the late Ollie Tillery, Arnold Goodwin, Alton Flippo, Dr. Robert Mann, and the retirees of the Wire, Rod, and Bar of Reynolds Metals.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Hester''s name to the Hospice of the Shoals or to the Colbert-Lauderdale Attention Homes.
