Charles B. Hendrix, age 84, of Florence passed away at Mitchell Holllingsworth, Saturday, May 15, 2010. The memorial service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John McKell will officiate. The family will visit with friends in the sanctuary at 1:00 p.m. before the service. Charles was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee. In 1947, Charles met Barbara Voorhees who was working at his father''s office, as a Home Demonstration Agent in Sevier County. They were married the following year. Charles and Barbara lived in Knoxville, Tennessee and Lexington, Kentucky before moving to Florence in 1962. They joined Westminster Presbyterian Church that year. Charles has served Treasurer, Deacon, and Elder at Westminster. Charles worked for 29 years in the Fertilizer Marketing and Development Branch at TVA. Charles was a Life Member of the National Management Association at TVA in Muscle Shoals and past President of the Shoals Chapter of the University of Tennessee Alumni. He was a member of the Florence Exchange Club, Florence Golf and Country Club, Mountain Star Lodge 197 F&AM, Shoals Area Antique Car Club, Brotherhood of Paternal Elks, and American Legion. Charles was member emeritus of the Red Hat club and recognized across the shoals for his stylish red hats. Charles is survived by son Stanley of Huntsville; son Joel and wife Beth of Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii; son Mark and wife Anna of Stuart, Florida; grandchildren Scott Hendrix of Florence; Lois Hendrix of Chesapeake, Virginia: Joel Hendrix II and Leanna Hendrix, both of Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii. The extended family includes nieces, nephews and other members throughout the country. The family suggests memorials to the National Parkinson Foundation, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
