Charles Allen McGlamery, 79, Florence, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, after a sudden illness. He passed away with his beloved dog, Ellie, by his side.
The family received friends Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Elkins Funeral Home, Florence. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence, with the Rev. David Lee officiating.
He was born April 20, 1930, in North Wilkesboro, N.C. He was the son of George Allen McGlamery and Ruby Wilma Landreth. He grew up in Florence, Ala., where he met his wife, Billie Lorene Hurst. Charles and Billie made their home in Florence with their sons, Steve and Mark and daughter, Karen.
Mr. McGlamery served in the National Guard and the U.S. Army. He was an Auburn University industrial engineer graduate. He retired from Ford Motor Co. after 25 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bill Hurst McGlamery and son, Mark Allen McGlamery. He leaves one son, Charles Steven McGlamery and wife, Amie of Duluth, Ga.; one daughter, Karen McGlamery Bramblett and husband, Bill, of Florence; four grandchildren, Josh McGlamery, Ashley Trotti, Katie McGlamery and Christopher Bramblett; two brothers, Clinton McGlamery, Austin, Texas, and Gerald McGlamery, Houston, Texas; one aunt, Ruby Campbell, Wilmington, N.C.
