Mr. Camp 92, died of respiratory failure at home Sunday, August 14, 2011. Mr. Camp was born in Randolph County, Alabama and graduated from Woodland High School. Mr. Camp is a veteran of World War II. In the Army he was trained in Civil Engineering and fought and reconstructed bridges in the European theater in World War II. Mr. Camp was awarded the Purple Heart medal. Following the war Mr. Camp was employed by the Alabama Department of Transportation until his retirement as Division Engineer of the 1st Division of North Alabama. Mr. Camp moved to Greenwood, MS in 2007 to be near his grandchildren.
Mr. Camp is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia, one Son, David and his wife Allyn, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Camp was preceded in death by one son Phillip and 3 siblings.
An informal visitation will be held at the home of his son and daughter-in-law David and Allyn Camp in Greenwood, MS on Monday August 15 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held at Ridouts Brown Service Funeral home in Decatur, AL on Wednesday August 17 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral immediately following in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ron Madison officiating. Burial will be at Burningtree Memorial Gardens. .
Pallbearers will be Caver Camp, Haynes Camp, Tommy Camp, Benny Camp, Larry Camp, and A. W. Hargett.
