Dalton Arnold Terry
Decatur
An old soldier has faded away after a lifetime of faithful service to God and his country. Dalton Arnold Terry went to be with his God and his precious wife of 55 years, Bernice Dobbs Terry, on August 19, 2013, just six days before his 90th birthday. He was a proud veteran of World War II where he served in the 385th Battalion and was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations.
A member of Southside Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, but perhaps his greatest joy was singing in Wayne Baggett's sanctuary choir. He also performed in the annual God and Country concert combining his love of God, country and family.
He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Williams of Decatur; two granddaughters, Tanya Spillman (John) and Angela Followay (Joey); five great-grandchildren, Ashli, Kate and Jack Spillman and Baylee and Mary-Katherine Followay, all of Decatur; brother, Porter Terry (Mary Jo) of Neel; three sisters, Christine Hopper of Cullman, Shirley Nelson (Tommy) of Hartselle and Rebecca Pugh (Joe) of Athens; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral for Dalton Arnold Terry will be Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Ben Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Special love and gratitude to Marie Couch, Rhonda Burns and Randy and Jan Belew for making his last five years such a beautiful and special time. Thanks also to Dr. Rodney Harney and Hospice of the Valley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or music ministry of Southside Baptist Church.
