Funeral for Dan "Mr. Dan" Sims Jr., 81, of Decatur will be Friday, March 9, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Ridout''s Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Sims, who died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Decatur General Hospital, was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Roanoke, Ala., to Daniel W. Sims and Eula G. Brown Sims. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Alabama Hosiery Mill until its closing and retired from Meadow Gold Dairies after 32 years of service. Mr. Sims was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, especially the Friday night Rook games. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bettye Jo Sims; three daughters, Brenda S. Hill and her husband, Arnold, Leigh Anne Bolan and her husband, Tony, and Dana J. Bailey and her husband, Curtis; one brother, Joe R. Sims and his wife, Shelba; two grandsons, Jason Hill and Ashley Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Gizmo. Pallbearers will be Tony Bolan, Curtis Bailey, Jason Hill, Ashley Hill, Barry Maner and Dusty Maner. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
