IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darryl Freeman
Armstrong
April 28, 1947 – February 27, 2025
Darryl Freeman Armstrong, world-class prankster, bender of rules, and practitioner of unconditional
love, passed away on February 27th, 2025 at the age of 77. He was born in Moulton, Alabama on
April 28th, 1947, to the late Donald Armstrong and Jewel Armstrong (née Tanksley). There are few
things he loved more than spending time with family, watching Alabama football, and reveling in the
solace of the mountains. Like his father, he was a Pied Piper of children, and he always loved the fact
that the Armstrong house was a delightfully chaotic epicenter of social activity. Carrying on a long-
running Armstrong family tradition, you knew he liked you if you found yourself the victim of his good-
natured ribbing. Alarm clocks had nothing on him, as he would awake naturally early every morning
singing (often Pink Floyd) and proclaim every day a beautiful one, rain or sunshine. He was the
founder and co-owner of Armstrong's Body Shop in Trinity, AL, and had a long career repairing and
rebuilding cars, from daily drivers to vintage restorations. He is survived by his children, Joe
Armstrong (Julie Smith) of Glendale, CA, Mike (Casey) Armstrong of Glendale, CA, Jessica (Jamie)
Webster of Trinity, AL, David Armstrong (Ashley Williams) of Panama City Beach, FL, Karen Grimes
of Moulton, AL, and special honorable mention to Danielle Morgan of Pell City, AL; siblings, Lynnda
Owens, Vickey Lundy, Donna Hughes, Dayton Armstrong, and Clayton Armstrong; grandchildren,
Andrew Barbel (Mara), Daniel Armstrong (Jordan), Grayson Webster (Kelsee), Gibson Fellows,
Caroline Webster (Parker Milligan), Drezden Grimes, Jackson Webster, Anna Armstrong, Natalie
Grimes, Lucy Armstrong, and AJ Armstrong; and great-grandchildren Bradlee, Evan, Olivia, Kash,
and Carter. He was a surrogate father to many, many more. He was preceded in passing by his wife,
Mary Armstrong (née Babush), brother, James "Jack" Armstrong, sister, Sandra Armstrong, and son-
in-law, Dusty Grimes. Also, grand-dogs, Edie, Max, Maisy, Buddy, Bubba, Dolly, Koda, Diesel, and
Lulu. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Darryl's favorite charity at St.
Jude's: www.stjude.org. Honor his memory by keeping life simple and always striving to find a way to
make people laugh. He was selfless in service to those he loved, and there were an awful lot of them.
We will miss him more than words can express. A celebration of life will be held at Pine Torch Church
in Bankhead National Forest, 2067 County Road 70, Moulton, AL on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, at
2pm. All are welcome.
