Obituary

Mrs. Dessie McClure Trousdale passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at her home in Rogersville after an extended illness. She was 94 years old. The visitation will be at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Elkiins East Chapel with Jeff Trousdale and Perry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. She was born in Florence, Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. Wesley McClure on March 1, 1916. She helped raise her brothers and sisters as her mother died of a young age. Dessie married Almon Logan Trousdale August 27, 1939 and they raised a large family with over fifty happy years together. Dessie was a homemaker and loved the outdoors, gardening, her flowers, and wild animals. Enjoying nature was a great pastime for her. She also enjoyed piecing quilt tops and canning. She was a Christian and a member of the Elgin Church of Christ most of her life. She is survived by children Elizabeth Kerr (Jack) of Athens, Betty Wilson of Florence, Bobby Trousdale (Brenda) of Rogersville, Royce Trousdale of Rogersville, Rebecca Condrey (Charles) of Florence, Patricia Cottles (Roy) of Rogersville, Nancy Bugg (Doug) of Killen, Ricky Trousdale (Lisa) of Rogersville, Debbie Trousdale of Rogersville and fiance Larry Condrey of Florence, Ernest Trousdale of Tuscaloosa, and Beverly Putman (Danny) of Rogersville; a sister Thelma Wright of Florence. Dessie''s great legacy is carried on through her children, thirty grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son Charles Almon Trousdale, grandsons Chuck Wilson and Troy Condrey, a granddaughter Stacey Bugg, a great-granddaughter Karissa Wilson and great-grandsons Heath and Zachery Trousdale. She has also suffered the loss of six siblings and a daughter-in-law LaDon Trousdale. Dessie was always a very positive person about things and had great faith that everything would work out for the best. Throughout her life, even in times of sadness or loss, she persevered and continued to be a great blessing to everyone who knew her. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Kerr, Mark Trousdale, Kenneth Trousdale, Tommy Condrey, Steve McGee, Robert Newton, Matthew Carpenter and Mike Wilson. Dr. Robert Mann is an honorary pallbearer. The family offers their special thanks to Dr. Mann and his staff, Mid-South Home Health Care Services and Lisa Glover.
