Doris Owen Estes, 84, of Elgin, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at ECM Hospital. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Elkins East Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Andy Erwin officiating. Burial will follow at Civitan Cemetery in Rogersville.

Mrs. Estes was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. She enjoyed working outdoors caring for her yard and helping others any way she could. She was preceded in death by her husband, John David "JD" Estes, Sr.

Survivors include her children, Charlotte White (Jimmy); David Estes (Evone) and Darrin Estes (Paula); grandchildren, Anna Blackburn (Jeremy), Brian Herston, Crystal Wade (Eric), John Estes, Ethan Estes and Sam Estes; great grandchildren, Cameron Blackburn, Kirk, Drá» and Scarlett Herston and Jordan Wade; sister, Louise Vance; brother, WP "Boy" Barbee (Agnes); and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Sam Estes, Ethan Estes, John Estes, Brian Herston, Nicholas Surles and Mark Springer.

The family would like thank her special friend, Cathy Isbell and her caregivers at ECM: Kerry in the ER, Justin, Oliver, Brandi and Amber in the CTRU 2nd floor, Cindy and Stephanie in Palliative Care; and Dr. Hollis, Mary and all of his staff.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Elgin Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
