Dorothy Carolyn Gaines age 82 of Florence passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14, from 9:30 am till 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Cherokee with services beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Cherokee Memorial Park. Officiating will be Scott Livingston.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband James L. Gaines Jr.

She is survived by one son, James L. Gaines III. Two daughters, Donna Gail Ashman and Debbie White. Three sisters, Ann Gabriel, Mary Francis Puckett and Winnie Wages. One brother, Bobby Yarbrough. Four grandchildren, Devin, Amber and Megan White and Elam Ashman. Four great-granchildren, Tessa and Kera Guitierrez, Addyson and Jason White.

Mrs. Gaines was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee. She graduated from the University of North Alabama. Worked at the Kennedy space center in Florida. She also was the Administer of the school at the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, Florida.
