Funeral for Dorothy L. Carter, 86, of Decatur will be today, Jan. 6, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, the Rev. Dan Moran, and her pastor, Dr. Rob Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Aunt Dot went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007. She was born to Otto and Katie Carter on June 6, 1920. She served in the U.S. Army in World War II. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur for 67 years. She was a retired hair stylist. Dorothy was very committed to her volunteer work at Christian Clothes Closet and Meals on Wheels. Her parents; two brothers, Otto Carter Jr. and Tommy Carter; two sisters, Margaret Carter and Marie Carter Hood; niece, Barbara Hogan; and nephew, Ronnie Hood, preceded her in death. Survivors include nieces, Marcella Moore, Sue Rogers and husband, Jack, Joyce Hood, all of Decatur, Jean Cottingham and husband, Dwight, of Hartselle, Debbie Moran and husband, Dan, of Birmingham and Dorothy Ann Anderson and husband, Calvin, of Gurley; nephews, Mike Hood and wife, Elaine, of Hattiesburg, Miss., Mike Carter of Madison and Ted Hogan of Moulton. Pallbearers will be her nephew and great-nephews, Mike Carter, Chris Thompson, Keith Rogers, Mark Cottingham, Byron Hood and Seth Moran. The family would like to thank Dr. Bill Whitley and the nursing staff at Decatur General Hospital for the care and kindness shown to her and to us. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
