Dorothy (Dottie) M. Allen Pour was born March 14, 1923 in Diss, Norfolk England to Mr. & Mrs. E. Allen and departed this world, with friends and family by her side, to go to her Heavenly Home January 14, 2018.
Before WWII, she had to go to work at age 14. When WWII began, she joined the British Women''s Land Army, who took the place of men who were in the military. They did everything from harvesting crops, baling hay, taking draft horses to the blacksmith and helping to build runways for the U.S.A.A.F.
She met and married U.S.A.A.F. T/Sgt Joseph Pour in April 1945. Ten months later, she came to the U.S. on the Queen Mary to join her husband in Rome, N.Y. where they had 3 children. In 1954, they moved to Verona, N.Y. for 2 years before coming to Decatur, AL in June, 1956.
Dorothy (Dottie) was very active in the Lutheran Church, serving as head of the Altar Guild for 30 years, a member of the Ladies Auxilary and helping with Vacation Bible School into her late 80''s and early 90''s. Also, she helped pre pair church service bulletins every week, after which she enjoyed going out to lunch with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in Oct. 2006, her parents and beloved mother-in-law Eva Pour.
She is survived by 3 children; Joseph Jr. (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), son; Carl (Decatur, AL) and daughter; Sherry Reed (Athens, AL). She will greatly be missed here by friends and family.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in the chapel of Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Aaron C Kretzschmar officiating. Interment will follow in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
