Douglass Bennett Roberson
Douglass Bennett Roberson, 82, of Florence, passed from this life to eternal peace with her Savior on November 12, 2018. Visitation is Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 3:00pm to 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service at Elkins Funeral Home, Florence, with Dr. Randy Thompson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Florence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: William Ray Roberson, Jr., Lee Douglass Roberson, William Ray Roberson, III, Marion Bennett Perritt, Hampton Daughtry Perritt, and Marion Blake Perritt.
Mrs. Roberson was born November 18, 1935 in Florence, AL.
She was a 1953 graduate of Coffee High School, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Alabama in 1956. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, and founding member of the KD chapter at Texas Christian University. Her commitment to education led to her 26 year career as an educator with Florence City Schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia. During retirement she volunteered with the Florence Police Department. She was a member of Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. Her love of gardening was evident to all who passed their lovely home. The Robersons were awarded the most outstanding lawn in Florence in 2000 from the Beautification Board.
Mrs. Roberson is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William "Billy Ray" Roberson; parents, Dr. Thomas Lee Bennett and Mildred Jackson Bennett. She was a member of Florence's oldest families, a direct descent from James and Susannah Rogers Douglass, as recognized by the commission on Early Families.
A very special thank you to her devoted sisters; employee and friend, Cassandra Muse; and multiple caregivers, including Ada Reeder and Barbara Cole.
Memorials may be made to first Presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia.
