Ethelbert Brinkley (Bert) Norton, Jr. passed away on October 30, 2025, at the age of 89.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Dobson Norton, son, Brink Norton, parents, Dr. E.B. and Laura Norton, brother Mack and sister Betty.

He is survived by daughters, Charlotte Sandlin (Jimmy Burcham), Rebecca Mardis (Blaine) and Kathy Granberry. Grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Parker), Wesley Sandlin, Katie Leigh Mardis, Mary Katherine Morris (Brad), and Laura Adams (Cam). Great grandchildren, Brinklee Smith,
Willow Adams, Jude Adams and Carter Morris.

Bert was born in Andalusia, AL and moved with his family to Florence when his father became President of the now University of North Alabama. He married his beloved wife; Marjorie Dobson and they made their home in Florence and raised their family. He was a Mechanical Engineer and
operated his mechanical engineering consulting firm, Norton Engineering, for his lifelong career.

Bert graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, served in the U.S. Army in the Corps of Engineers and was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church and the Ferguson Class. Bert was a man of faith, loved his family, Auburn football and fishing in "his" Tennessee River.

Service will be Tuesday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkins Funeral Home with Rev. Ian Butler officiating. Visitation will be held before the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Blaine Mardis, Jimmy Burcham, Wesley Sandlin, Parker Smith, Cam Adams and Brad Morris. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Dill.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses, staff and therapists at Florence Nursing and Rehabilitation. And to the caregivers from Home Instead. Many of whom became like family to us.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church, the Dr. E.B. Norton Scholarship Fund at the University of North
Alabama or the charity of your choice.
