Edith Clyte Hubbard Moon (75), passed away on February 4, 2024at Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman, AL. She was born on August 29, 1948 in Ripley, MS to Clyde Samuel and Lilla Ione Hopper Hubbard.
Edith grew up in Chalybeate, MS. She graduated from Walnut High School. During early childhood, she had developed a love of children and seeing them learn, thus going on to declare Education as her major at Blue Mountain College. Soon after, she received her Master's in Education from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
She moved along with other young teachers to Decatur, AL to begin her 33+ years-teaching career (plus 14 years of being a faithful "sub") with the Decatur City Schools. Her love of helping children learn carried over even into her summers/free time. She would go back home to Chalybeate to work in Vacation Bible School at her childhood church. The children would say she made learning the songs and memory verses fun!!
Edith and Harlan Moon were married in December 2008 inDecatur, AL. They were happily married for 15 years, enjoying rich life experiences as a small farm owners. Day trips with the Morgan Baptist Association and choir and children ministries (AWANA, Children's Church, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bus Ministry, etc.) at 16th Avenue Baptist Church helped them fill many hours with fun and fellowship with friends. One of Edith's most recent "callings" was a monthly mailing ministry to the seniors and shut-ins at 16th Avenue Baptist. This ministry was a blessing to all involved.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents.
Edith is survived by her husband, Harlan Moon; her sisters Joyce (Hubert) Bennett and Patsy Hubbard; and her brothers Clyde (Donna) Hubbard and Dennis (Joy) Hubbard. She is also survived by beloved nieces: Jennifer (Derrick) Dunn, Mandy (Zack) Howell, and Abigail (Michael) Stowell and nephews Mark (Colleen) Bennett and Brian (Tennille) Hubbard plus 11 great nieces and nephews : Melanie and Mollie Dunn; Lilly Grace Howell; Max, Miles and Charlie Stowell; Savannah, Mary Jordan and Wesley Bennett; and Tristan and Evey Hubbard.
They always looked forward to her visits because of all the fun games and activities she and Harlan planned and led at family holidays and celebratory get-togethers. (The prizes were superb – including a few "zonks"!!)
