Mrs. Edna Smith Cathey, age 92, of Florence, passed away Monday at the home of her daughter in Huntsville.
The family will receive friends at Elkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 beginning at 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Formby officiating. Burial will follow in the Florence City Cemetery.
Mrs. Cathey was preceded in death by a son, Earl Cathey, Jr., her husband, Earl Cathey, and by brothers Alvin and Allen Smith.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Florence and the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday school class. She enjoyed flower gardening.
Mrs. Cathey is survived by a daughter, Carole Cathey Maner and husband Charlie, Huntsville; grandchildren, John Alan Maner and wife Kayron, Huntsville and Donald Howell Maner and wife Gayle, Madison; great-grandchildren, John Alan Maner, Jr., Ashden Elizabeth Maner, and Katherine Louise Maner; sister, Cornelia Smith Nix; brothers, Robert Lee Smith and wife Jessie, and William Edward Smith and wife Christine, all of Florence; a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Terry Mitchell, Robert Smith, William Smith, John Alan Maner, John Alan Maner, Jr., and Donald Maner. Honorary bearers will be Robert L. Smith and William E. Smith.
