Funeral for Edward Joseph Schreck, 90, of Decatur will be today, May 22, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in the Stephenson Chapel with Dr. Bill Hurt and the Rev. Roger Jenkins officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Schreck, who died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at his residence, was born July 5, 1919, in Wisconsin. He served in the 3rd Army and was a World War II veteran. After his military service, he obtained his college degree from The University of Wisconsin and became a university professor in physics and chemistry at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and was a guest professor at Penn State University. In 1958, he was recruited from Academia for beginning of the American Space Program and was employed by Morton Thiokol and retired in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Schreck; two sons, Michael Schreck of Decatur and Richard Schreck and his wife, Mary Susan of Richmond, Va.; adopted son, Dr. A.H. Omar of Decatur; two sisters, Ann Kempe and Eve Bischoff, both of Milwaukee; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Walter Price, Steve Wright, Thomas Whitman, Robert Sellers, Taylor Schreck and Adam Omar.
Memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice.
