Mrs. Emily Collier Antle died October 18, 2009 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Florence, Alabama. She was 88 years old.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 22, 2009 in the Elkins Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Gary Formby will officiate.
She was born Emily Mae Haltom on March 27, 1921, in Florence, to E.B. Haltom, Sr. and Elva Simpson Haltom. She had one brother, Judge E.B. "Bert" Haltom, Jr.
Emily graduated from Coffee High School and attended Florence State College, now the University of North Alabama. She married William J. "Bill" Collier of Florence in 1939, and they raised their family in Florence, until his death in 1968.
Her career included stints as a professional Girl Scout worker, and as a social editor for the Tri-Cities Daily. As Mrs. Collier, she worked many years for the University of North Alabama as an executive secretary, until her retirement in 1977.
In that year, she married Jordan Antle of Nashville, Tennessee. Thy made their home in Nashville, and enjoyed a twenty-six year marriage, enhanced by travel, great friends, and thorough community involvement. Shortly after his death in 2001, she returned to Florence, where she resided at Merrill Gardens Retirement Community.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara C. Frederickson of Atlanta, Georgia and her husband Gordon Frederickson; a son, Ingram Collier of Florence; grandson, Bryan C. Frederickson of Houston, Texas and his wife Angela; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Anna, and Jane Claire Frederickson, all of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Mrs. E.B. Haltom, Jr., of Florence; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Florence, Alabama or the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.
