Emmy Rupflin, a long time resident of Waterloo, AL, died peacefully of natural causes on June 2, 2014 in Texas. She was 93 years old. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday at Elkins Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Richardson Cemetery in Waterloo.

She was born in Duisburg, Germany on December 20, 1920, the daughter of Wilhelm and Elisabeth Berns. She was married for 53 years to Herbert Rupflin. She was a friendly and joyful person who loved music, nature and the arts.

Emmy was preceded in death by her parents Wilhelm and Elisabeth Berns, her husband Herbert Rupflin, her son-in-law Thomas Merrill, and her sister Hildegard Berns Drake.

She is survived by her daughter, Gabriele Merrill of Houston, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews both in the US and in Germany.
