Funeral for Flossie Faye Burks Hopkins, 73, of Mount Hope will be Sunday, May 30, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope Methodist Church with Mike Rhodes and Bro. Scott Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Elliott Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hopkins, who died Friday, May 28, 2010, was born April 6, 1937, in Lawrence County to Joseph "Roy" Burks and Mattie Lanch Witt Burks. She graduated from Hatton High School Class of 1955, retired from H.D. Lee in Russellville and was a member of Mount Hope Methodist Church. Mrs. Hopkins was instrumental in starting girls softball in Lawrence County along with some other coaches in the 1970s. She coached girls for Mount Hope for over 10 years. She was active in her church and community. Her grandson, Nicholas Shane Hopkins, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Teddy Fay Hopkins; two daughters, Tina Brackin (Barry) of Town Creek and Sarah Fae Hopkins of Mount Hope; one son, Joel Shane Hopkins (Robin) of Mount Hope; four grandchildren, Matthew, Kandis, Bekki and Steven; two stepgrandchildren, Emily and Chelsie; two great-grandchildren, Sabastian and Damien; one sister, Ruby Rhodes (Billy) of Decatur; three brothers, Willard Burks (Brenda) of Georgia, James Burks (Beverly) and Frederick Burks (Rezzie), both of Moulton; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Tim Burks, Todd Burks, Bryan Burks, Greg Meadows, Brad Burfield and Randy Womack.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Hopkins, Billy Oswalt, Wayne Mills, and the Hatton Class of 1955.
