Obituary

Floyd E. McGee of Rogersville passed away at his home Friday morning, November 21, 2008 at the age of 87. At his side was his wife and companion of 66 years, Doris Fulks McGee.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23,2008 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, at Lexington, Ala., with Jason Vinson officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00- 2:00 p.m.
Floyd was born in Lauderdale County on April 29, 1921 to Ernest and Ethel McGee and lived his whole life in the area except from 1943 to 1945 when he served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a deacon and a respected and faithful member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Lexington and also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lexington. In 1983 he retired from Reynolds Aluminum, worked in his garden and was a beloved granddaddy to twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pop loved to fish and tell stories and had many friends, neighbors and relatives that will surely miss his quiet humor.
His surviving children are Laura Killen, Richard [Linda], Gary [Karen]. Travis [Elaine] and Teresa [Bill] Poppie. Surviving sisters include Thetus Lash and Marvis [James] Barnett, all of Lexington and sister-in-law, Faye McGee of Rogersville. There are also many nieces and nephews that called Floyd Uncle.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
