Frances H. Allgood, 87, of Florence, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, after an extended illness. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Florence and the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday school class. Frances was born and raised in Russellville, Alabama, then moved to Florence after graduating from Auburn University. She was a resident of Florence for over 60 years. The Allgood family expresses its deepest gratitude to Clara Mae Thompson who was Frances' lifelong friend. Also, we thank the Mitchell-Hollingsworth staff and Dr. John Bartmess for their compassionate care during her stay there. Mrs. Allgood is survived by her sons William Y. Allgood of Killen, John H. Allgood and wife, Barbara, of Killen, and James E. Allgood and wife, Annette, of Alexandria, VA.; her sister, Mary Hester, of Russellville and her brother, Ralph Hamilton, of Statesville, NC. She is also survived by her six grandchildren -- Christian, Sara, Amy, James, Alan, and Evan, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She had five four-legged great grandchildren: Tippy, Freckles, Tony, Myrtle, and Boomer!
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Hilland Y. Allgood, and brothers Gordon Hamilton and Harvey Hamilton. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 30, at 4:00 p.m. at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens (2601 Florence Blvd [Hwy 72]) in Florence with Rev. Gary Formby officiating.
