Frances Barger Smith, 93, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014. Born and raised in Martin, Tennessee, she earned a B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She married Dr. Gordon E. Smith and, after living in Washington, DC, Athens, Greece, and Kansas City, MO, they settled in Florence.

Her sense of humor was enjoyed by all and she loved to cook, sew, garden, and stay busy. She was a member of the DAR, and active over the years, at her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, Genella and "Dutch" Barger. She is survived by daughter, Cathy McDermott, son-in-law, Richard McDermott, and grandchildren, Katie and Ian McDermott, all of Rockville, MD.

Visitation from 11-1:00 will precede a 1:00 service on December 10th at Trinity Episcopal Church in Florence. Burial will follow at Florence City Cemetery. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
