Mrs. Frances Beggs Tune, 87, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at her home.
A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday including a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the atrium of the First United Methodist Church of Florence followed by a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. at the Florence Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Formby will officiate.
Daughter of the late John A. Beggs and Lena Brown Beggs, Fran was born in Canon, Georgia, on May 20, 1922. She attended Martha Berry College and graduated from the Georgia State College for Women. Prior to her marriage, she taught in the schools of Hart County, Georgia.
Fran married William S. "Bill" Tune on March 10, 1946, in Hartwell, Georgia. The couple moved to Florence in the mid-1950''s where her late husband established the architecture firm of Barr & Tune Architects.
Fran spent most of her adult life in Florence and was active in the community for more than fifty years with several ladies groups including the Firenze Club as well as multiple bridge and book study clubs. She also supported the Salvation Army and Kennedy-Douglass Center.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and an accomplished gardener and homemaker. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Tune; her son, William Michael Tune; her daughter, Shirley Tune Perry; and her brothers John Beggs and Gordon Beggs.
Fran is survived by her granddaughters, Courtney Perry and Jennifer Perry, both of New York, N.Y.; son-in-law, Dow M. Perry, Jr. and wife Dianne, Decatur; sister-in-law, Jean M. Tune of Hartselle; brothers-in-law, Tillman L. Tune, Jr. and wife Suzanne, Florence, and James T. Tune and wife Carolyn, Newton, Mississippi; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Owen Sewell, John Hollman, Dan Hollman, Brian Barr, Jim Noles, and Simpson Russell.
