Fred Calbert Hill, age 76 of Florence, died November 10, 2011, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be Saturday November 12, at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence from 9:30am 11:00am. Services will be at 11:00am in the Chapel with Ellis Coats and Sonny Owens officiating. Burial will be at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. He was born April 12, 1935 to Homer and Velma Hill in Florence, Alabama. Fred retired from the US Post office in 1993 after 30 years of service as Postmaster, earning many awards and achievements. He was a loving and devoted family man who worked hard his entire life. Fred was a member of Petersville Church of Christ from the first day the Church was opened, where he also served as Deacon. He was also a member of the Florence Civil Service Board. Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy J. Hill, his daughter Fredda Hays, (husband Jeff) and his sons Darren Hill (wife Kim) and Greg Hill (wife Debbie). Brother Gilbert Hill. Sisters, Opal "Robbie" Gray, Sue Maness, and Pat Howard (husband Dickey). Six grandchildren, Jackson, Scott, Jennifer (husband Lance), Shannon, Sunny (husband Tommy) and Jon; two great grandchildren, Lillie and Carley. Pallbearers will be John Hamm, Doug McClure, Lance Stephenson, Jimmy McGee, Greg Richardson and Mike Howard. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude''s.
