George W. Hamner, 83, of Killen died on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at ECM Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018, 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Killen Church of Christ. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 PM with Stan Dean, Miles Stutts, and Ben Siegel officiating. Burial will follow at Atlas Cemetery. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.

George was an agent with State Farm Insurance for nearly forty years, and a member of Killen Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon. He was active in his church, and passionate about his work with the Jail and Prison Ministry. Always athletic, George was an avid golfer, skier, fisherman, and horseman. He was an accomplished traveler, a talented photographer, a fan of Alabama football—and he possessed a gift for making others smile with his jokes, stories, magic tricks, and bear hugs. He was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, and deeply committed to serving the Lord and the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert and Mary Susan Stutts Hamner; sisters, Elvie Peck, Agnes Clemmons, and Edith Nichols; brothers, Hunter Hamner, Howard Hamner, and Hershel Hamner; and son-in-law, Jim Heaps.

His love and exuberant spirit lives on in his beautiful wife of 62 years, Carolyn Hamner; daughters, Laura Heaps and Angela Hamner (Kevin Gooch); son, Keith Hamner (Norma); grandchildren, Jessica Mays, Jared Heaps, Courtney Siegel (Ben), Kelsey Thigpen (Justin), Micah Hamner, Griffin Gooch, and Sophie Gooch; sisters, Irma Estes and Martha Burrows; brothers, Horace Hamner, Hollie Hamner, Troy Hamner, and John Hamner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Micah Hamner, Griffin Gooch, Jared Heaps, Lynn Hamner, Dwight Hamner, Justin Thigpen, Scott Hamner, and Don Killen. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Killen Church of Christ and his loving nephews.
