Funeral for George Stewart Hutcherson, 83, of Priceville will be Sunday, March 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery in Ft. Lamar, Ga. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hutcherson, who died Thursday, March 19, 2009, was born April 19, 1925, in Madison County, Ga., to Jim and Hattie Hutcherson. He served in the U.S. Army, was Company First Sergeant in the 864th Engineering Battalion in the Philippines and New Guinea. Following his discharge, he acquired his B.A. in business at The University of Georgia. Upon graduation, he went to work for Kroger, where he retired as a zone manager after 39 years. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Rotary of Decatur, a Mason, and in retirement, worked with Meals on Wheels. He was an ardent outdoorsman who loved gardening, fishing and nature. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David and John Hutcherson; and four brothers, John Worley, Walton, Brawner and Grady. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Phillips Hutcherson; two sons, Tim Hutcherson and Greg Hutcherson, both of Decatur; grandchildren, Zachary and Russell Hutcherson of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Faye Hutcherson of Tulsa, Okla., sister-in-law, Ruby Hutcherson of Ft. Lamar, Ga. and Mary Hutcherson of Athens, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Meals on Wheels.
