George W. Royer, age 100, died Dec. 15, 2008. He was born in Trinity on July 22, 1908. His parents were Lucian P. Royer and Maggie O. Royer. He was married to Frances C. Royer, who predeceased him. He had two sisters, Elizabeth Royer and Jane Royer Glenn, both of whom predeceased him. Mr. Royer graduated from Riverside High School in Decatur in 1928. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, in 1933 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He was employed with Exxon Mobil Foreign Operations from 1936 until 1961. He was then employed with the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal until his retirement in 1978. He was a Registered Professional Engineer. He was a Mason and a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 29 in Decatur. He is survived by his son, George W. Royer Jr. (Sue) of Huntsville. He is also survived by three grandchildren, George W. Royer III of Austin, Texas, and John F. Royer and Katie Royer, both of Huntsville. There will be a graveside service at Decatur City Cemetery on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at noon. Visitation will be at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The family wishes to thank the staff and administration of Decatur Health and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and care.
