Mrs. Geraldine Fouts Striplin, of Florence, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Striplin was born January 22, 1924 in Florence to Kathleen Young and Don Leonard Fouts. They and her beloved grandmother Olma Barry Young, preceded her in death. She was married to Marcus M. Striplin, Jr. for 27 years before his death.
Mrs. Striplin was employed by T.V.A. as an accountant for 24 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Florence for 80 years and was a former member of the Administrative Board. A member the U.M.W. for 30 years, she taught children''s Sunday School for 15 years and belonged to the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday School class since 1955. She had been a volunteer at Mitchell-Hollingsworth, E.C.M and the V.A. Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The graveside service will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Florence Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Formby officiating. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
She is survived by a sister Marguerite F. Charter; a niece Donna Hughes; nephews Tom and Bill Charter; eight great nieces and nephews, all of Georgia. She dearly loved her precious friend, Mary Evers, for over sixty years.
Pallbearers will be Harris Burns, Robert Redd, Tom Charter, Bill Charter, Bob Moma and Tom Pebworth. Honorary bearers will be Mason Ingram, Brant Young, Charles Moore, and members of the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday School class.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Florence.
