Funeral service for Gertrude Farrer King, 96, of Decatur will be Friday, November 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, the Rev. Mike Free officiating. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Nieces, Daisee Turner and Kerri Curtis will sing songs written by her brother, Dr. Malcolm Rigel, "He is All I Need" and "I Saw the Cross."
Gertrude was born in Limestone County on January 19, 1916, to Daisy and Edd Rigel. She was a member of Community Church of God. She worked at Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio for 25 years. She loved her job.
She is survived by one son, Dan Farrer and wife, Nancy, of Anchorage, Alaska; stepson, Kenneth King and wife, Pat King; stepgranddaughters, Arlene Morris and Lisa Sims; granddaughter, Tara Rey and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Cajlowski and Kyle Blackmon; sisters, Mildred Garnett and husband, Lakin, and Elizabeth Jones and husband, James Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; and a number of loving nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
